From Everlasting to Everlasting

This morning I was working on ‘The One True God’ (I mentioned this in an earlier post.) The name of the chapter I’m working on this week is called ‘God is eternal, self-existent, and immutable’.  Specifically God’s eternal-ness.

Think about Psalm 90:2 and 4  ‘Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God…For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it passes by, or as a watch in the night.’

The phrase ‘everlasting to everlasting’.  If you just read it, it seems to be somewhat simple and comprehendable  Just from forever ago and on throughout eternity.  But when you think about it, you’ll realize it’s uncomprehendable.

Here’s what I wrote down about those verses, ‘God has been since eternity past.  He was before He created the universe.  “In the beginning, God. (Genesis 1:1)  And God who has never begun (simply always was) and never ends, will never stop being God.  ‘Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God’.  Since God is from everlasting to everlasting, time is not of much significance.  What is a thousand years when you have a million, billion, gazillion?  And a bazillion, millions of billions of gazillions?

Don’t just read descriptions of God, such as from everlasting to everlasting, and keep going.  Stop.  Spend ten minutes (or more if you like) and just try to comprehend it.   You won’t understand it once you’ve meditated a while on it.  You can’t.  God is so uncomprehendable.  But it will make you want to fall down and worship Him for His awesomeness.
